They both share several of the same bearing and races, & the diameter of the ring gear is nearly identical in both. ![]() ![]() A good road racer choice.Ī 8.8" regular, is nothing more than a nearly exact copy of the GM 12 bolt rearend, used since the 1960s in productioncars & trucks. A true trac is similar to a Torsten as most of you know. Its better than a spool on street, when it fits & is manufactured for your particular application. A Detroit locker has its place as well, & not just in Nascar racing. You will likely start hurting other components if you run one on a street car much. You can also vary the rate by shimming them on some designs.Ī spool on the other hand, should only be used on a dedicated drag car. 8.8" use a different type spring setup than the 9" uses. We generally only use clutch style Trac Locs on street cars that occasionally see the drag strip.ĩ" Trac Locs allow for the use of 2 & 4 springs inside the block that carrys them. U never get a true 50/50 bias at ea tire with 1, but your choices are limited by the other options & there draw backs. They are easy to rebuild, & we often use spring rates on the higher end of the spectrum to tightenup the locking action. ![]() Clutch style trac locs should be monitored if your hitting them hard.
